DCE Celebrates 50 Years of Access, Innovation, and Impact

DCE 50th anniversary logo
The 50th Anniversary logo features a stylized image of a bridge that represents the connection between DCE’s past and its future. It embodies our dedication to linking students globally to educational opportunities that foster connection, create opportunities, and promote understanding.

2025 is a milestone year for the Harvard Division of Continuing Education (DCE). We’re celebrating our founding in 1975 and the beginning of the modern era of Harvard University’s commitment to continuing education, open enrollment, and access. But our history goes back much further.

Now encompassing Harvard Extension School, Harvard Summer School, Harvard DCE Professional & Executive Development, and Harvard Institute for Learning in Retirement, DCE is the most diverse academic unit at Harvard University. We offer courses, programs, and degrees to a global audience of intellectually curious learners from high school age into retirement.

Throughout 2025, we will honor our accomplishments and set the stage for our bold vision for the future. Dean Nancy J. Coleman will lead events throughout the year to recognize the achievements of our students, staff, faculty, and alumni as well as reflect on the myriad of ways DCE has expanded access to Harvard for learners around the world; contributed to programmatic, academic, and technological innovation; and impacted the lives of hundreds of thousands of individuals and their communities.
